Prescription Medicines Order Line
As you will be aware from the update in our previous newsletter, the Practice is working in conjunction with the Medicines Order Line to enable all of our patients with repeat prescriptions to order them over the phone, in the comfort of their own home.
This initiative has been very successful and recently has been extended to include medication ordering from two Nursing Homes that the Practice provide services to.
The next phase is for the Medicines Order Line to liaise and work with the patient repeat prescriptions that are currently handled through the local pharmacies. All pharmacies are required to sign up to the Pharmacy Code of Conduct which governs how they are engaged to provide a repeat prescription ordering service for patients. Any pharmacy that does not comply will no longer be able to provide this service for patients from 21st September 2018. Please note the Practice will not accept direct requests from your Pharmacy after this date.
This initiative is being undertaken to, most importantly, further enhance patient safety and also to reduce medicine wastage. The Medicine Order Line staff are fully trained to review the repeat prescription requests and check with patients as to what medications they actually require. They also provide reminders to patients regarding annual checks that may be needed before medication is re-issued.
The Practice is fully supportive of this next phase of the initiative as we firmly believe it will improve the safety of medication provision process for our patients.
